Home Tour: The Blackstone Project

We are excited to share the details of our recently completed Blackstone Project, a renovated historic family home on the East Side of Providence.

Situated in one of northern Rhode Island’s most desirable neighborhoods, The Blackstone Project is a Colonial Revival style home originally built in 1910. While it has seen some updates since then, our clients wanted to infuse new life into the rooms in the front of the home that hadn’t been touched in over 20 years. They desired a unique, color-forward design, where each room felt distinctly different, but cohesive, comforting and inviting at the same time.

The bones of the house provided a beautiful canvas to work with, featuring original millwork and architecture throughout. The addition of a jewel tone palette, bespoke furnishings and a few functional improvements make the interior truly shine from the moment you step through the door.

the entry

This entry makes a stunning first impression of the home’s charm from the moment you step through the front door, and serves as an inviting connection between the 3 main rooms at the front of the house and the main stair to the second floor.

Our clients are avid art collectors, and we love how the vibrancy of these originals in the entry sets a playful tone for the rest of the home. Primarily designed in shades of blues, browns and greens, this color palette makes meaningful ties to the adjacent selections. A custom Dunes & Duchess pedestal table in lacquered cobalt proudly stands on a neutral woven rug beneath a sparkling new fixture.

the dining room

Showcasing a bold play on traditional elements, the dining room exudes a sophisticated mix of old and new.

We utilized our client’s existing china cabinet and dining table as they were, but added a bold touch to their buffet, coating it in a high gloss green lacquer. The custom dining chairs from Made Goods add a punch of personality with a cheetah print fabric adorning the uniquely shaped chair back, with a soft green velvet seat.

Small, thoughtful details were incorporated through accessories, including curated dinnerware pieces, glassware and table decor.

the office

Nearly ten shades of blue harmonize in this room to create depth and offer a moody, sophisticated vibe. With comfort and functionality of utmost importance, this room serves a few purposes, allowing our clients to catch up on work, or play a round of chess at the game table, or lounge and watch TV. For comfortable viewing, the TV was mounted on a bracket that floats down to eye level with a soft pull.

It’s all in the details.

The custom built-in is a new addition to the room, and was designed to seamlessly blend with the home’s existing architecture. A new mantle and stone enhances the original fireplace, and layered draperies create a cozy atmosphere, no matter the time of day.

Distinctly Personal Interiors

We celebrate the opportunity to design in a variety of styles in order to suit our clients’ unique personalities, lifestyles and aesthetic preferences, and this project was no exception.

From travel and cultural experiences, to likes and dislikes, goals, needs and everything in between, our team takes pride in honoring our clients’ backgrounds by weaving their unique experiences into each space. These moments create a closeness to home that goes far beyond aesthetics.
